Steinar Hovi monument

Beitostølen

Steinar Hovi (1939-2013) built up the ski resort village of Beitostølen in the Norwegian mountains brick for brick. Beginning literally with a sign in the ground reading 'ski skole' and a vision driven by his fiery will and spacious generosity, he brought together many and developed the area into place for young and old to enjoy the rich mountain life in a traditional Norwegian way. He received the King's Medal of Merit in gold for his contributions to Norwegian society in 2013.

Bruce met him only briefly, shortly before his untimely death, but came to know him in depth through many long hours and visits with his family.
